DID YOU KNOW?  -- Three years before the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide, Serbs torched Bosniak villages and killed at least 3,166 Bosniaks around Srebrenica. In 1993, the UN described the besieged situation in Srebrenica as a "slow-motion process of genocide." In July 1995, Serbs forcibly expelled 25,000 Bosniaks, brutally raped many women and girls, and systematically killed 8,000+ men and boys (DNA confirmed).

MUSEUM MARKS HOLOCAUT MEMORIAL DAY

The Imperial War Museum North is hosting as series of special events to mark the tenth annual Holocaust Memorial Day this month.

The events, taking place between January 22-30, aims to help visitors of all ages learn about the Holocaust and its lessons for today, showing how war shapes lives.

The event has the theme of Untold Stories, and will feature a screening of a film about, and attended by, a Holocaust survivor, and a documentary by local award winning filmmaker focusing on the massacre in Srebrenica, Bosnia.

Jim Forrester, Director of Imperial War Museum North, said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is an international commemoration of the lives lost in the Holocaust and other more recent genocides, as well as those affected by present day discrimination.”

All events are free but booking is required for some events as places may be limited.
